Mr. F. Reviews: Silence: The Musical

I finally had a chance to go see SILENCE! for its final performance at PS122.  The show is now transferring to Elektra Theatre [673 Eighth Avenue (at 42nd St.)].

This show is one of the funniest shows I have ever seen.  No I'm not kidding!  The show is really hilarious.  I have not seen the movie in years - so, even without recent recollection of the film - the musical is hysterical!

The show has the same premise as the movie, Clarice uses Dr. Hannibal Lecter to try to catch the serial killer - Buffalo Bill.  Every nuance from the movie is replicated and over dramatized by an extremely talented cast as they spew forth a catchy book by Hunter Bell.

The music is just as catchy, with music and lyrics by Jon and Al Kaplan.  With basic orchestrations, the music progresses the story and adds even more humor.

The simplicity of the set and lighting design add to the intimacy of the show and the fun!  The set uses f movable flats, a desk, a pane of glass, a few chairs - and that's about it!

Synopsis:
Silence! The Musical follows F.B.I. trainee Clarice Starling as she uses her relationship with Dr. Hannibal Lecter to hunt serial killer Buffalo Bill.

Quick Notes:

  • Who Should See It? Anyone over 17.  There is A LOT of foul language and adult humor in the show, therefore I cannot advise it for minors.
  • Best part of the show? The acting - top notch
  • Actor/Actress? This one is hard to say - Pamela Bob (as Clarice) is beyond spectacular and can carry a show like no one's business! And David Garrison (as Lecter) is spot on.  Big props to Nick McGough who played Dram Hannibal, et all in this production was a shining star!
  • Best Song? I can't say that name of it here, trying to keep this site PC.  Let's just say it has to do with smelling something.
